Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the salt, vanilla extract, and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers remain soft.
  • Cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • To make chewier cookies, use more brown sugar and avoid overbaking.
  • Freeze cookie dough balls for later baking—just add a few extra minutes to the baking time.
