Ingredients
For the dough:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup whole milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter
2 large eggs
For the cherry filling:
2 cups fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and halved
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the glaze (optional):
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp milk or cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Make the dough: Warm milk and butter until butter melts. Let cool to lukewarm. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk mixture and eggs. Mix to form a soft dough, then knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
Prepare the cherry filling: In a saucepan, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Cook over medium heat for 10–12 minutes until thick and jammy. Stir in vanilla and let cool completely.
Assemble: Punch down dough and roll into a 16×12-inch rectangle. Spread cooled cherry filling over the dough. Roll tightly from the long edge and slice into 12 rolls.
Place rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes.
Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and cooked through. Let cool slightly.
Make glaze (optional): Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls and serve.
Notes
Use sweet cherries or adjust sugar for tart cherries.
Let filling cool completely to prevent soggy dough.
Roll tightly and slice with dental floss for even pieces.
Store leftovers in the fridge or freeze for later enjoyment.
