Ingredients

1 loaf of bread (Hawaiian rolls or French baguette recommended)

6 cloves of garlic (roasted)

½ cup unsalted butter (melted)

1 large egg

¼ cup milk

1 tsp salt

1 tsp paprika

2 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped)

1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • Roast the Garlic: Bake peeled garlic cloves in olive oil for about 20 minutes, or until golden and soft.

  • Mash the Garlic: Once roasted, mash the garlic and set it aside.

  • Prepare the Bread: Slice the bread loaf into halves and bake for about 5 minutes, until lightly crispy.

  • Make the Garlic Butter Custard: In a bowl, combine the roasted garlic, melted butter, egg, milk, salt, paprika, and chopped parsley.

  • Dip the Bread: Dip the bread halves into the garlic butter custard, making sure both sides are coated.

  • Bake the Bread: Place the dipped bread in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden.

  • Add the Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the bread and broil for 2-3 minutes, until melted and bubbly.

  • Serve: Remove from the oven, slice, and serve.

Notes

  • Cheese Swap: Try using cheddar or parmesan cheese for a different flavor.

  • Herb Add-ins: Add fresh thyme or oregano to the garlic butter for an extra herbal kick.

  • Vegan Version: Use vegan butter, plant-based milk, and skip the egg for a vegan-friendly option.

  • Extra Crispy: To ensure extra crispiness, bake the bread before dipping in the garlic butter custard
