Cheesy Chicken Nuggets are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and filled with gooey melted cheese. Perfect for a fun family meal or snack, these homemade nuggets bring a cheesy twist to a beloved classic.

Ingredients

  • 500 g chicken breast or thigh (ground or cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
  • 2 tbsp grated parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp chopped herbs (parsley, optional)
  • Cooking spray or 2 tbsp oil (for baking or frying)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) or preheat your air-fryer/frying pan if using an alternative cooking method.
  2. If using whole chicken, cut into nugget-sized pieces; if using ground chicken, mix with shredded cheese, parmesan, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten egg, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with paprika and optional herbs.
  4. Coat each nugget piece in flour, dip into egg, then press into the breadcrumb mixture to coat evenly.
  5. Place coated nuggets on a parchment-lined baking sheet and lightly spray or brush with oil.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes, flip, then bake another 8–10 minutes until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature 74°C/165°F).
  7. Let rest for a few minutes before serving to keep the cheese from leaking out.
  8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce such as ranch, honey mustard, or barbecue.

Notes

  • Bake at a high temperature for crispiness without frying.
  • Mix cheese directly into chicken to keep it moist and flavorful.
  • For gluten-free nuggets, use almond flour or gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • Can be air-fried for about 12–14 minutes at 190°C (375°F).
  • Best served immediately but can be stored and reheated for quick snacks.
