Cheesy Baked Gnocchi is a comforting dish made with tender potato gnocchi baked in a rich tomato sauce and topped with melted mozzarella and Parmesan. Bubbly and golden, this easy-to-make meal is perfect for weeknight dinners or cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound potato gnocchi
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Stir in marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Add heavy cream if using and simmer for 3–4 minutes.
  4. Add gnocchi directly to the sauce and stir to coat evenly.
  5. Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan evenly over the top.
  6. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
  7. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley.

Notes

  • No need to pre-boil gnocchi; it cooks in the sauce while baking.
  • Add cooked sausage or shredded chicken for extra protein.
  • Stir in spinach or mushrooms for additional vegetables.
  • Broil for 2–3 minutes at the end for a golden top.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
