A cozy, family-friendly casserole combining seasoned ground beef, creamy sauce, cheddar cheese, and crispy tater tots for an irresistible cheeseburger-inspired comfort dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup or burger sauce
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of cheddar soup
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • Optional: 1 tbsp mustard
  • Optional: 1/4 cup diced pickles
  • Optional: 1/2 cup cooked bacon pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
  2. Cook ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is tender. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add garlic, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  4. Mix in the cream of mushroom or cheddar soup until creamy.
  5. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish and spread evenly.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.
  7. Arrange tater tots in a single, even layer on top.
  8. Bake for 30–40 minutes until tots are golden and casserole is bubbling.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Add cooked bacon for a bacon cheeseburger twist.
  • Stir in mustard or diced pickles for extra burger flavor.
  • Use pepper jack cheese for a spicy kick.
  • Frozen peas, corn, or bell peppers can be mixed in for extra veggies.
  • Broil for the last 2 minutes for extra crispy tater tots.
