The Cheeseburger Sub is a hearty, flavor-packed sandwich that combines all the elements of a classic cheeseburger — juicy ground beef, melted cheese, crisp lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles — all tucked inside a warm, toasted sub roll for the ultimate comfort meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 4 sub or hoagie rolls
  • 8 slices American or cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • ½ cup pickles, sliced
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil (for toasting rolls)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease.
  3. Lower the heat to medium and place cheese slices on top of the beef. Cover and let the cheese melt.
  4. While the cheese melts, lightly butter the sub rolls and toast them on a skillet or under the broiler until golden.
  5. Spoon the cheesy beef mixture evenly into each toasted roll.
  6. Top each sub with shredded lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles.
  7. Drizzle with ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise, or mix them together for a signature burger sauce.
  8. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for the best flavor and juiciness.
  • Toast the rolls to prevent sogginess.
  • Customize your toppings — add bacon, onions, or jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • Mix condiments together for a homemade burger sauce.
  • Assemble the subs just before serving for the freshest taste.
