Chai Twist is a warm, spiced beverage that combines the comforting flavors of traditional chai tea with a unique twist—whether it’s an added ingredient, a creative preparation method, or a special garnish. This drink offers a cozy and aromatic experience perfect for relaxing moments.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup milk or plant-based milk
  • 2 black tea bags or 2 teaspoons loose black tea
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 45 whole cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Optional garnish: cinnamon stick or a sprinkle of ground cinnamon

Instructions

In a saucepan, combine water, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, ginger, and star anise. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

  1. Add tea bags or loose tea and simmer for another 3-5 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and strain the spices and tea leaves.
  3. Return the tea to the saucepan, add milk, and heat gently without boiling.
  4. Stir in honey or maple syrup and vanilla extract if using.
  5. Pour into mugs and garnish with a cinnamon stick or a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.

Notes

  1. Use chai concentrate or pre-made chai tea bags for convenience.
  2. Add a shot of espresso for a chai latte twist.
  3. Use coconut milk or almond milk for a dairy-free version.
  4. Sweeten with brown sugar, agave, or stevia instead of honey.
