Ingredients

For the French Toast:

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

  • 4 slices of bread (preferably day-old)

  • Butter or oil for frying

For the Orange Syrup:

  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice

  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, ground cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.

  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.

  • Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are coated well. Cook on the hot skillet for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

  • While the French toast is cooking, prepare the orange syrup. In a small saucepan, combine the orange juice, honey (or maple syrup), lemon juice, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3-4 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  • Once the French toast is ready, serve hot with a drizzle of the freshly made orange syrup.

Notes

  • Adjust the spices by adding a pinch of nutmeg or ginger for added flavor.

  • Experiment with different breads such as challah, brioche, or sourdough for a new texture.

  • For toppings, consider adding fresh berries, whipped cream, or toasted nuts like almonds or pecans.
