Caramel Apple Pancakes are fluffy, spiced pancakes topped with tender cinnamon-sautéed apples and a rich homemade caramel sauce. This fall-inspired breakfast is perfect for cozy weekends or special holiday brunches.

Ingredients

  • For the pancakes:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups milk or buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the apple topping:
  • 2 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • For the caramel sauce:
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Make the apple topping: In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and add diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook for 6–8 minutes until apples are tender and caramelized. Set aside.
  2. Make the pancake batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and sugar. In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Pour wet into dry and stir until just combined.
  3. Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil. Pour 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake and cook for 2–3 minutes or until bubbles form. Flip and cook for 1–2 more minutes until golden brown.
  4. Make the caramel sauce: In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and heavy cream. Simmer for 3–4 minutes, stirring constantly, until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and add vanilla and a pinch of salt.
  5. Serve: Stack pancakes on plates, top with warm apple mixture, and drizzle with caramel sauce. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a balanced flavor.
  • Don’t overmix pancake batter—small lumps are fine.
  • Let caramel sauce cool slightly to thicken before drizzling.
  • Top with whipped cream or toasted nuts for extra indulgence.
