Caprese Skewers are a fresh, colorful, and delicious appetizer made with ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fresh basil, drizzled with balsamic glaze. They offer a perfect balance of flavors and textures, making them ideal for parties, gatherings, or a light snack.

Ingredients

  1. 1 pint cherry tomatoes (or grape tomatoes)
  2. 8 oz fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
  3. Fresh basil leaves
  4. Balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  5. Toothpicks or small skewers
  6. Salt and pepper to taste
  7. Olive oil (optional, for drizzling)

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients: Wash the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves. If the mozzarella balls are large, cut them into smaller pieces to match the size of the tomatoes.

  1. Assemble the Skewers: On each toothpick or small skewer, thread one cherry tomato, followed by a fresh basil leaf, and then a mozzarella ball. Repeat until all skewers are assembled, alternating between ingredients for a beautiful presentation.
  2. Season the Skewers: Arrange the assembled skewers on a serving platter. Drizzle with olive oil (optional) and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Add the Balsamic Glaze: Drizzle balsamic glaze over the skewers just before serving for a sweet, tangy finish.
  4. Serve: Serve the Caprese Skewers immediately, or refrigerate them for up to an hour before serving if you want to prepare them ahead of time.

Notes

  • For a different flavor, try using feta or goat cheese instead of mozzarella.
  • If you prefer a smokier flavor, you can grill the skewers for 2-3 minutes, being careful not to overcook the mozzarella.
  • Make your own balsamic glaze by simmering balsamic vinegar with sugar until it thickens into a syrup-like consistency.
