Buffalo Fries are crispy French fries tossed in spicy buffalo sauce and topped with creamy ranch or blue cheese dressing, making them a fiery and comforting appetizer or snack perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes or 1 bag frozen French fries
  • Vegetable oil (for frying or baking)
  • 1/3 cup buffalo sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (if making buffalo sauce from scratch)
  • 2 tablespoons ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing
  • 2 tablespoons crumbled blue cheese or shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions or chives (optional, for garnish)
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon paprika, pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. If using fresh potatoes: peel (optional), cut into sticks, soak in cold water for 30 minutes, drain and dry. Fry at 300°F (150°C) for 4–5 minutes, then again at 375°F (190°C) for 2–3 minutes until crispy. Alternatively, bake at 425°F (220°C) for 25–30 minutes.
  2. If using frozen fries: bake or air fry according to package directions until golden and crispy.
  3. If making buffalo sauce: melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in hot sauce and optional seasonings. Simmer for 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
  4. Place hot fries in a large bowl and drizzle with buffalo sauce. Toss gently to coat.
  5. Transfer fries to a serving platter. Drizzle with ranch or blue cheese dressing.
  6. Top with crumbled blue cheese, shredded cheddar, or green onions as desired.
  7. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Notes

  • Toss fries with sauce just before serving to prevent sogginess.
  • Adjust heat level by choosing mild or spicy buffalo sauce.
  • Sweet potato fries make a great alternative for a sweet and spicy twist.
  • Use vegan butter and plant-based cheese/dressing for a vegan version.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven for best texture.
