Beef Stroganoff Fries are a rich, indulgent fusion dish where crispy French fries meet creamy beef stroganoff. Topped with tender beef, mushrooms, onions, and a tangy sour cream sauce, it’s a hearty comfort food mashup perfect for cold nights or casual entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes or 1 bag frozen French fries
  • Vegetable oil, for frying or baking
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 lb thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank steak)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon flour (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil, for sautéing
  • Optional toppings: chopped parsley, shredded cheese, chives

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel (optional), and cut the potatoes into fries. Soak in cold water for 30 minutes, then drain and dry thoroughly.
  2. Fry at 300°F (150°C) for 4–5 minutes, drain, then fry again at 375°F (190°C) for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy. Alternatively, bake at 425°F (220°C) for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway. If using frozen fries, cook according to package instructions.
  3. In a skillet over medium-high heat, sear the beef slices until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add butter or oil. Sauté onions and mushrooms until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Stir in flour (if using), then add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Reduce heat to low. Stir in sour cream until smooth. Return beef to the skillet and simmer 2–3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Place hot fries on a platter or plate. Spoon the beef stroganoff over the fries.
  8. Garnish with parsley, shredded cheese, or chives as desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use tender cuts like sirloin or flank steak for best results.
  • Sautéing mushrooms and onions until golden adds depth of flavor.
  • Add shredded cheese before topping with stroganoff for extra richness.
  • To avoid soggy fries, assemble right before serving.
  • Flour is optional; omit for a thinner sauce or use cornstarch for gluten-free.
