Banana fritters are sweet, crispy fried treats made from ripe bananas mixed into a simple batter and cooked until golden brown. Perfect as a snack, dessert, or breakfast option.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk or coconut milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Optional toppings: powdered sugar, honey, maple syrup, chocolate sauce, ice cream

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the bananas until mostly smooth.
  2. Add egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and optional spices.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients to make a thick batter. Add a splash of milk if too thick.
  5. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil, flattening slightly if needed.
  7. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with desired toppings.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor and sweetness.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan when frying to maintain oil temperature.
  • For extra crispiness, let the batter rest for 10–15 minutes before frying.
