Classic baked potatoes with crispy skins and fluffy interiors. Perfect as a simple side dish or customizable base for hearty toppings.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium to large russet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, shredded cheese, chives, bacon bits, butter, black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Scrub potatoes clean and pat dry.
  3. Prick each potato several times with a fork.
  4. Rub potatoes with olive oil or butter and sprinkle with salt.
  5. Place directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 45–60 minutes, until skins are crisp and a knife pierces the center easily.
  7. Let cool slightly, slice open, fluff insides with a fork, and add desired toppings.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, bake directly on the oven rack without foil.
  • Use sweet potatoes for a different flavor variation.
  • Reheat in the oven for best texture.
