Ingredients

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 4 hot dogs, sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. While the pasta is cooking, melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and whisk for 1-2 minutes until it forms a smooth paste (roux).
  4. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Once the sauce thickens, add the shredded cheddar cheese and stir until melted and smooth.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, cheese sauce, and hot dog slices. Mix well.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  8. Optionally, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for extra crunch.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute elbow macaroni with any other short pasta like penne or rigatoni.
  • Experiment with different cheese blends like mozzarella or gouda for a unique flavor.
  • For extra nutrition, add vegetables like peas, broccoli, or spinach.
  • To make it spicy, consider adding diced jalapeños or red pepper flakes
