Ambrosia Salad is a classic no-bake dessert salad made with tropical fruits, marshmallows, and a creamy base of sour cream or whipped topping. Sweet, fluffy, and refreshing, it’s a nostalgic favorite that adds a touch of retro charm to any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) mandarin oranges, drained
  • 1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks, drained
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, drained and halved
  • 2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup sour cream or whipped topping (Cool Whip)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  1. Drain all canned fruits thoroughly to prevent excess liquid.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, gently fold together mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks, cherries, marshmallows, and shredded coconut.
  3. Add the sour cream or whipped topping and fold gently until all ingredients are evenly coated.
  4. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld and the marshmallows soften slightly.
  5. Before serving, garnish with extra cherries, coconut, or chopped nuts if desired.

Notes

  • Drain fruit very well to keep the salad from becoming watery.
  • Use sour cream for a tangy flavor or whipped topping for a sweeter version.
  • Can be made a few hours ahead — chilling enhances the flavor.
  • Do not freeze; the texture will not hold up after thawing.
  • Fresh fruit like pineapple or oranges can be substituted for canned.
