Air Fryer Tofu is a crispy, golden, and flavorful protein option made with minimal oil. Perfect for vegan or vegetarian meals, it’s crunchy on the outside and tender inside—great for salads, stir-fries, or dipping sauces.

Ingredients

  • 1 block (14 oz / 400 g) firm or extra-firm tofu
  • 12 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
  • 12 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 1½ tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • (Optional) ½ tsp paprika or chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu: Drain and wrap the tofu block in paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Place a heavy object on top and press for 10–15 minutes to remove excess water.
  2. Cut into cubes: Slice the tofu into even 1-inch cubes.
  3. Season and coat: In a mixing bowl, toss tofu cubes with oil, soy sauce, and seasonings. Add cornstarch and gently mix until evenly coated.
  4. Preheat air fryer: Set your air fryer to 190°C (375°F) and preheat for 3–5 minutes.
  5. Air fry the tofu: Arrange cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10–15 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through, until golden and crisp.
  6. Serve: Enjoy plain or toss with your favorite sauce such as teriyaki, sweet chili, BBQ, or peanut sauce.

Notes

  • Pressing the tofu is key to achieving crispiness.
  • Cornstarch creates a light, crunchy coating—don’t skip it if you want a crispy finish.
  • For oil-free tofu, skip the oil but expect a slightly drier texture.
  • Use parchment liners or spray the air fryer basket to prevent sticking.
  • For extra flavor, toss tofu in sauce right after cooking while it’s still hot.
