Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, these air fryer sweet potato fries are a lighter, healthier version of the classic. With just a bit of oil and your favorite seasonings, they cook up fast and perfectly golden in the air fryer.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes
  • 12 tsp olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp paprika or smoked paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel (if desired) the sweet potatoes. Pat them dry thoroughly.
  2. Cut into even 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick fries for uniform cooking.
  3. Optional: Soak fries in cold water for 10–30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and dry completely with a towel.
  4. In a bowl, toss fries with olive oil, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings (garlic powder, paprika).
  5. Preheat air fryer to 380°F (193°C) if required by your model.
  6. Arrange fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket — do not overcrowd.
  7. Air fry for 10–12 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through. Cook an additional 1–2 minutes if needed for extra crispiness.
  8. Transfer to a plate and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Cut evenly for best texture and cooking consistency.
  • Don’t overcrowd the basket — air circulation is key for crisp fries.
  • For extra crispiness, soak and dry the fries before cooking.
  • Try seasoning variations: Cajun, chili powder, rosemary, or cinnamon sugar for a sweet version.
  • Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350–375°F for a few minutes to restore crispness.
