Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks are a crispy, gooey snack that’s healthier than the traditional fried version. Made with string cheese and a crunchy breadcrumb coating, they’re easy to make, freezer-friendly, and perfect for parties or quick snacks.

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut mozzarella sticks in half to make 24 shorter pieces. Freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare a breading station with three bowls: flour in the first, beaten eggs in the second, and a mix of Italian breadcrumbs, panko, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in the third.
  3. Coat each frozen cheese stick in flour, then dip in egg, then coat in breadcrumb mixture. For a crunchier coating, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  4. Place breaded cheese sticks on a tray and freeze again for at least 30 minutes before air frying.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
  6. Spray mozzarella sticks lightly with cooking spray and place in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  7. Air fry for 6–8 minutes, turning halfway, until golden and crispy.
  8. Serve immediately with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing before air frying prevents cheese from leaking out.
  • Double coating helps with crispiness and structure.
  • Cook in small batches to ensure even browning.
  • Reheat leftovers in the air fryer for best texture.
  • Store breaded, uncooked sticks in freezer for up to 2 months.
