Air Fryer Jalapeño Poppers are a delightful appetizer featuring fresh jalapeños stuffed with a creamy cheese mixture, topped with crispy breadcrumbs, and cooked to perfection in the air fryer. This recipe offers a healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried poppers, delivering the same bold flavors with less oil.

Ingredients

  1. 6 large jalapeños
    4 oz cream cheese, softened
½ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
    ¼ cup chopped green onions
    ½ tsp garlic powder
    ¼ tsp salt
    ¼ tsp black pepper
    ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs
    1 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

Slice each jalapeño in half lengthwise. Use a spoon to remove the seeds and membranes.

  1. In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, green onions, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth.
  2. Spoon the cheese mixture into each jalapeño half, filling them generously.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with melted butter.
  4. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the stuffed jalapeños.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the jalapeños in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 8–10 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  6. Remove from the air fryer and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  1. Add a few dashes of hot sauce or finely chopped fresh chilies to the cheese mixture for a spicier kick.
  2. Experiment with different cheeses like mozzarella, pepper jack, or a cheese blend for varied flavors.
  3. For a vegetarian option, add finely chopped vegetables like mushrooms or spinach to the cheese mixture.
